In Tana, we board a small plane that takes us to one of Madagascar\u2019s smallest airports, in Maroantsetra. The town lies right on Antongil Bay, which separates Mananara from Masoala. From there, we set off by boat into the Masoala rainforest, Madagascar\u2019s largest contiguous forest area, covering over 2,100 km\u00b2. We\u2019re staying in a simple hotel right on the beach, with the rainforest behind us. Unfortunately, it hasn\u2019t rained here for two weeks, but temperatures have remained above 35\u00b0C throughout \u2013 which isn\u2019t ideal for reptiles.
