Expedition Vlog Day 4: Masoala

It’s still hot today, with temperatures above 35°C, and above all dry. Whilst the little neighbouring village is celebrating International Women’s Day – an important public holiday in Madagascar – we’re setting off on our next hikes in the Masoala rainforest. The national park, covering an area of around 2,100 km², stretches across altitudes ranging from 0 to 1,224 metres. And as we always set off from the beach, we work up quite a sweat along the way. In fact, we’re successful today and find our first ‘Green Giant’ Parsons’ chameleon of the year. It isn’t particularly large yet, though, as it’s a juvenile. But where there are juveniles, you’re bound to find adult chameleons somewhere nearby too. So we carry on searching – and a thunderstorm in the evening finally brings the long-awaited rain. Hopefully it will bring more reptiles!
